After several days of intense heat, the temperature across the country has decreased slightly. On Sunday (April 27), rain was recorded in various parts of the country, leading to a reduction in the extent of the ongoing heatwave. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the increased chances of rainfall will further lower the temperature across the country.
In the regular weather bulletin issued on Sunday evening, it was reported that heatwaves were affecting 5 districts. The previous day, Saturday, had seen heatwaves in 16 districts.
Meteorologist Omar Faruq Kalbela mentioned that the tendency for rain will continue for the next 2-3 days, and from Monday, the temperature will return to more bearable levels. The temperature will likely remain stable for the next five days, after which it may gradually rise again.
The bulletin also stated that a mild heatwave is currently affecting Gopalganj, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jessore, and Patuakhali districts, though it may subside in some areas. On Sunday, the highest temperature of 37.4°C was recorded in Jessore, while Dhaka recorded 35°C. Additionally, temperatures of 36°C were observed in Sirajganj’s Baghbari, Pabna’s Ishwardi, Gopalganj, and Patuakhali.
Temperatures between 36°C to 38°C are classified as mild heatwaves, 38°C to 40°C as moderate heatwaves, and 40°C to 42°C as severe heatwaves. Temperatures above 42°C are categorized as extreme heatwaves.
The weather forecast further indicates that on Monday and Tuesday, some parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary gusty winds, lightning, or rain, along with thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures across the country could decrease by 1-3°C, and nighttime temperatures might also drop slightly. On Wednesday, similar weather patterns with gusty winds and thunderstorms may continue in these regions, and both day and night temperatures may increase slightly across the country.
