On Monday, April 28, at 11:30 AM, a proposal to recognize Bengali New Year will be presented at the New York State Senate House on April 14. On that day, the New York State Senate will be filled with a festive atmosphere in celebration of the Bengali New Year.
The event will be attended by Senator Sepulveda, Senator Fernandez, and other senators. Representatives of the Bengali community will include WorldWide NRB’s founder and president, Bishwajit Saha; Dr. Nazrul Islam, senior economist and vice-chairman of the Muktdhara Foundation; artist Rathindranath Roy; music director Mahitosh Talukder Taposh; artist Lutfun Nahar Lata, and around fifty other distinguished guests.
The event will be hosted by Mahitosh Talukder Taposh, the director of the “Sahasra Kontho Bengali New Year” celebration program. Speeches will be delivered by Senator Sepulveda, Senator Fernandez, and Assembly Member Reyes will provide the welcome address. Dr. Nazrul Islam, Bishwajit Saha, and Rathindranath Roy will also speak at the event.
Under the patronage of Senator Fernandez, the event will include a luncheon and a delightful cultural performance, creating an enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees.
In the afternoon, the resolution passed by the Senate will be read, followed by comments and discussions from Senator Sepulveda and other senators. This marks the first time that Bengali New Year is being officially celebrated at the state level internationally.
