Dates are not only a nutritious fruit but also possess remarkable medicinal properties. While modern science acknowledges their health benefits, Islamic teachings—especially the Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)—highlight their spiritual and physical significance even more profoundly.

Among all varieties, the Ajwa dates of Madinah hold a special place in Islam. The Prophet (ﷺ) spoke about their extraordinary virtues in several Hadiths.

A narration from Aisha (RA) states that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Ajwa dates grown in the highlands of Madinah have healing effects, and when eaten in the early morning, they act as an antidote to poison.”
— (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 5168)

In another Hadith, Sa’d (RA) reported:
“I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: Whoever eats seven Ajwa dates in the morning, neither poison nor magic will harm him that day.”
— (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5445)

On one occasion when Sa’d (RA) fell ill, the Prophet (ﷺ) placed his hand on his chest and said:
“You are suffering from a heart ailment. Go to Harith ibn Kalda, a skilled physician, and ask him to grind Ajwa dates and make seven pills from them.”
— (Abu Dawood, Hadith: 3835)

Ali (RA) also said:
“Whoever eats seven Ajwa dates every day, all diseases of the stomach will be cured.”
— (Kanz al-Ummal, Hadith: 28472)

Ajwa dates were also a preferred choice for the Prophet (ﷺ) when breaking his fast. Anas (RA) narrated:
“The Prophet (ﷺ) would break his fast with fresh dates. If none were available, he would use dried dates. If neither were available, he would drink water.”
— (Tirmidhi)

Additionally, a Hadith in Tirmidhi refers to Ajwa dates as a fruit of Paradise.

Considering these spiritual and health-related virtues, making a habit of eating seven Ajwa dates every morning can be highly beneficial for both body and soul.
