M A Malik, adviser to the BNP Chairperson and president of BNP UK, has said that Tarique Rahman could return to Bangladesh at any time. He added that the exact date of his return will be announced soon. Malik also emphasized that there is no doubt elections will be held in February next year.
Speaking to journalists at Sylhet International Airport on Wednesday (October 1) around 3:45 pm after returning from London, Malik made these remarks.
He stated, “People no longer support the Awami League. In a recent interview in the United States, the ban on Awami League activities and the comments regarding Sheikh Hasina by the Chief Adviser were diplomatic in nature. Over the past 15 years, the Awami League’s actions have not been forgotten by the people. Now, the public does not want this party.”
Regarding candidate nominations, he said, “Many are declaring themselves as BNP candidates or claiming to have received the green signal. However, nomination decisions rest solely with the party high command. So far, no one has received the green signal; everyone is still on the red signal.”
Extending greetings for the Durga Puja festival, Malik said, “I will visit local Puja mandaps to convey my wishes.”
Thousands of supporters welcomed him at the airport with flowers, banners, placards, and slogans, giving him a warm reception.
It is worth noting that Malik accompanied BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on her medical visit to London and returned to Bangladesh on May 6. He later went back to London on August 3.
