In a special anti-smuggling operation along the Satkhira and Kalaroa borders, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Indian goods worth nearly seven lakh taka.

This information was released on Saturday (October 11) evening through a press statement by the Satkhira Battalion (33 BGB).

The statement said simultaneous raids were conducted in the areas under Madra, Taluigacha, Baikari, Jhaudanga, Sultanpur, Hizldi, and Chanduria BOPs, leading to the seizure of the goods.

Based on intelligence, the Madra BOP patrol team seized Indian medicines worth 2.1 lakh taka from the Ambagan area of Kalaroa police station. Additionally, medicines worth 30,000 taka were seized from Charabari area of Taluigacha BOP, medicines worth 70,000 taka from Govindakathi field near Jhaudanga camp, Indian saris worth 35,000 taka from Borali post area of Hizldi BOP, medicines worth 70,000 taka from Kapalipara of Baikari BOP, and medicines worth 35,000 and 70,000 taka from Bhadiyali area under Sultanpur and Kakdanga BOPs respectively.

Furthermore, the patrol team of Chanduria BOP seized Indian medicines worth 1.4 lakh taka from the Goalpara area. The total value of the confiscated goods amounts to approximately 6.6 lakh taka.

The BGB reported that these goods were being illegally brought from India to Bangladesh to evade customs duties and sold in the local market, which not only hampers national revenue but also harms domestic industries.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashraful Haque, BGB commander, said the seized items are being handed over to customs. He added, “The BGB will continue its operations to protect national revenue and build a drug-free society.”

Local residents praised the BGB’s efforts and urged for increased and sustained operations in the border areas.
