BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused various forces of conspiring from all sides to weaken the BNP. Urging party leaders and activists at all levels to actively participate in the upcoming elections, he said, “Do not be misled by false propaganda. There is a conspiracy from every direction to trap and harm the BNP.”

He made these remarks on Saturday (October 11) afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at a memorial meeting for BNP Standing Committee member Brigadier General (Retd.) A.S.M. Hannan Shah, held in Kapasia, Gazipur.

Mirza Fakhrul stated that some people campaign against BNP, claiming that the party does not support reforms. Addressing them, he said, “BNP is actually the pioneer of reforms. For example, it was through the reforms initiated by Ziaur Rahman that multi-party democracy was established in the country.”

He added that attempts are being made to disrupt the elections. “We have struggled for 15 years for this election. After the meeting in London between Dr. Yunus and Tarique Rahman, people had hope they would get their representatives; but now, bureaucrats are running the country. Our sole demand is a freely elected parliament and impartial elections to restore democracy.”

On the demand for a fully neutral BNP government, he said, “There are allegations that some advisors are biased towards certain parties. The people do not want any partiality. To this government, I say: be 100% neutral.”

Regarding India, Mirza Fakhrul said, “India has always tried to put the people of Bangladesh in danger. Border killings, water disputes, and interference in elections are examples. We want friendship based on equality with them, and no interference in our affairs will be tolerated.”

The memorial meeting was organized by the Brigadier General (Retd.) A.S.M. Hannan Shah Memorial Council at the Kapasia Government Pilot High School ground. The event was presided over by district BNP convener Fazlul Haque Milan. Other speakers included BNP Organizational Secretary Kazi Saiyyedul Alam Babul and District BNP Joint Convenor Shah Riyazul Hannan, among others.
