Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has welcomed the army’s decision to detain several officers allegedly involved in enforced disappearances and killings. He shared his views in a post on his verified Facebook page on Sunday morning (October 12).

In the post, Dr. Rahman stated that the process of bringing to justice a few army officers linked to disappearances and murders has begun. He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh should take pride in their patriotic army, although some members have failed to respect the country’s laws and human rights.

He added that certain individuals, acting as blind collaborators under the provocation of a fascist government, were responsible for implementing agendas of abductions and killings. This created a terrifying environment in the country, which is a great misfortune for the nation. However, he stressed that the entire institution should not be tarnished due to the crimes of a few, as responsibility lies solely with the individuals involved.

Dr. Rahman also noted that the army has clearly committed to supporting the judicial process and has taken the accused into custody. He expressed his support for this initiative.

In conclusion, he expressed hope that no one will face injustice and that a transparent judicial process will ensure the guilty are appropriately punished. This will help erase past wrongs and deter anyone from abusing their position or identity to harm the public in the future. Ultimately, he believes this will benefit the nation in the long run.
