Nasir Uddin Shawon, Senior Joint General Secretary of Dhaka University’s Jubo Dal, has been granted bail in a case involving allegations of kidnapping and ransom demands.

On Saturday, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka granted bail to Shawon in a case filed by Sheikh Naeem Ahmed, owner of ‘Tripjayan’ travel agency located at Panthapath, Dhaka. The case was filed on Friday accusing Shawon of kidnapping and torturing Naeem Ahmed to demand a ransom of 3.5 million taka.

Speaking to Kalbela, Shawon said, “I was trying to do a humanitarian work but was framed in a conspiracy. The person whose account transferred money to Naeem’s account is a volunteer in my local political group and also my relative. He came to me in trouble and his family has also contacted me. Later, I went to Tripjayan Travel at Panthapath and found no such office at that address.”

He added, “Since there was no office at that location, suspicions arose. We found Naeem Ahmed in Gulshan area and tried to resolve the matter peacefully. Instead of settling the issue, he filed a false case at Gulshan police station. I have been deliberately framed in this matter. I am a victim of conspiracy.”

The complainant Naeem Ahmed also clarified, “Shawon never demanded any money or ransom from me. It was a misunderstanding. Based on my testimony and evidence, bail was granted yesterday. I have fallen victim to a fraudulent syndicate and the authorities are investigating the matter.”
