The Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) has announced a two-day program ahead of the national elections, putting forward seven key demands. These include the formal issuance of the July Accord implementation order, holding a referendum before the national election, banning the activities of the National Party and the 14-party alliance, and conducting elections through proportional representation (PR) in both houses of parliament.
The announcement was made on Monday, October 13, at a press conference held at JAGPA’s office in Paltan, Dhaka, by the party’s Vice President and spokesperson, Rashed Pradhan.
According to the program, on October 14 at 11 a.m., a human chain will be organized from Jatrabari Mor to Gabtoli Bus Stand in Dhaka. Simultaneously, human chains will be held in all divisional cities across the country. On October 15, JAGPA will organize human chains in all its organizational district centers.
Rashed Pradhan emphasized that merely signing the July Accord implementation will not guarantee its execution and could lead to uncertainty. He urged the interim government to issue an official order to implement the accord and to hold a referendum on the issue before the national election.
He added that if the referendum is held on the same day as the national election, the importance of the referendum will be overshadowed by the election itself.
Addressing justice for political crimes, Rashed Pradhan said that while the July genocide trial has begun, justice for other major incidents—including the Pilkhana massacre, the Shapla Square killings, anti-Modi protests, and other violent events—remains unseen. He also called for the ban and prosecution of the National Party and the 14-party alliance, allies of the ruling Awami League, who have so far escaped accountability.
Rashed Pradhan further demanded the public disclosure and cancellation of all secret and unjust treaties made with India, stressing that the people of Bangladesh no longer want Indian dominance or interference.
He stated that the country rejects any form of dictatorship, fascism, or corrupt governance. To build a new Bangladesh, elections must be held through the PR system in both houses of parliament, ensuring a level playing field free from Indian influence.
The press conference was also attended by JAGPA General Secretary Professor Iqbal Hossain, Presidium members Asadur Rahman Khan, Syed Md. Shafiqul Islam, Md. Hasmat Ullah, Publication Secretary SM Ziaul Anwar, Dhaka Metropolitan JAGPA President Shyamal Chandra Sarkar, and JAGPA Youth President Nazrul Islam Bablu.
