A detainee from Chattogram Central Jail died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday, October 12.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam, 45, a resident of the Baklia Access Road area in Chattogram. He was the fifth accused in a case involving a shooting that targeted a businessman’s vehicle, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Following the incident, Kalam was arrested and sent to jail.
Chattogram Central Jail’s Senior Jail Superintendent, Iqbal Hossain, confirmed the incident. He stated that Abul Kalam had suddenly experienced chest pain during the night. He was first taken to the prison hospital for initial treatment, and later transferred to CMCH due to deterioration in his condition. He died there while receiving treatment.
