Saiful Alam Nirab, former convenor of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP, stated that the only way to establish genuine democracy in the country is through an elected government.
He made this remark during a brief gathering while distributing leaflets outlining the 31-point state reform agenda announced by BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, organized by the Tejgaon Thana BNP on Wednesday (October 15). Leaflets were distributed in areas including Farmgate Anand Cinema Hall, Jahanara Garden, Green Road, and Tejturi Bazar.
Nirab said, “An unelected government can never establish true democracy. Without democracy, the hope that arose among the people after the fall of the fascist government will be shattered, leaving people disappointed.”
He also added, “Those calling for a referendum in November have a hidden agenda. They are misleading the public with conditions to delay the national elections. However, the people are alert to this conspiracy.”
Emphasizing that there is no place for disorder or indiscipline within the party, Nirab warned, “We will not tolerate any disruptors, wrongdoers, extortionists, drug dealers, or terrorists, even if they are party members. Strict organizational and legal actions will be taken against them.”
Calling for unity, he said, “National unity is essential to protect the prospects of democracy and to combat anti-national conspiracies.”
