Thousands of residents along the Teesta River protested with torchlights against Indian aggression and demanded their rightful share of Teesta water, while also calling for the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan.

On Thursday evening (October 16), as part of the “Wake Up Teesta, Save Teesta” campaign, torchlight rallies were simultaneously held at 11 points across Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, and Gaibandha districts.

The program was inaugurated at the Teesta Railway Bridge area in Lalmonirhat by Asadul Habib Dulu, Chief Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Committee and Organizational Secretary of BNP’s Rangpur division.

At the Teesta Barrage in Hatibandha, the torchlight rally was inaugurated by Barrister Hasan Rajib Pradhan, Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Committee for Hatibandha-Pattgram Upazila and member of the BNP National Executive Committee.

Along with the riverside residents, thousands of people from BNP and various social groups joined the protest, standing knee-deep in the river water, chanting slogans like “Wake Up Teesta, Save Teesta,” “Teesta is my mother, won’t let India take it,” and “Dig the river like Zia with a spade.”

The event was also attended by AKM Mominul Haque, Joint Convenor of Lalmonirhat District BNP; Mosharraf Hossain, Convenor of Hatibandha Upazila BNP; Afzal Hossain Mia, Member Secretary; and Joint Convenor Rafiqul Islam among other leaders.
