Nahid Islam, Convenor of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has alleged that the nation is being deceived in the name of national unity. He stated, “Signing the July Charter does not establish national unity. True unity is built through the collective struggle of people from all walks of life.”
He made these remarks on Friday (October 17) at the launch event of Jatiya Sramik Shakti (National Workers’ Power) held in Eskaton, Dhaka.
Nahid further said, “Some people believe national unity is simply a matter of political parties coming together. But real political unity means uniting workers, farmers, professionals, and people from all social backgrounds. Today, a few political parties are preparing to sign the July Charter again, but this cannot be considered true national unity.”
He also criticized the disregard shown toward the Labor Reform Commission’s report, calling it a sign of continued negligence toward workers’ issues.
At the event, Nahid Islam announced the central leadership of Jatiya Sramik Shakti. The newly appointed leaders are:
- Chief Organizer: Arman Hossain
- Member Secretary: Riaz Morshed
- Convenor: Mazharul Islam Fakir
The new leadership affirmed their commitment to addressing the long-standing deprivation of workers, securing their rights, and ensuring their political participation.
