Leaders and Supporters Overwhelmed to See Nuruddin Apu

Ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Elections, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, former private secretary to BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and the BNP candidate for Shariatpur-3 in the 11th parliamentary elections, held a discussion with people from various walks of life and party activists from Shariatpur district in Dhaka.

The meeting took place on Friday evening (October 17) at the Krishibid Institute in Farmgate. Supporters and leaders were emotionally overwhelmed upon seeing Apu, greeting him warmly, shaking hands, hugging, and taking selfies. Apu reciprocated their affection, embracing many and fulfilling selfie requests.

In his speech, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu said the people suffered under the 17-year rule of the Awami League’s authoritarian government. He highlighted how, under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, democratic forces united through prolonged struggle to overthrow autocracy. He stressed the need for unity within the party and declared the aim to make Shariatpur a strong BNP stronghold.

Apu also recalled the assassination attempts against him during his efforts to serve the people in 2018 and his eight years in prison. He emphasized that BNP is not violent but committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of the people.

The event was chaired by Kamal Uddin Ahmed, former Vice-President of Shariatpur BNP. Other notable attendees included SM Jahangir Hossain, Joint Convenor of Dhaka North BNP, former Secretary Faruk Ahmed, retired Brigadier General Zahidur Rahman, retired Major Moniruzzaman Talukder, district and upazila leaders, and representatives from various professions and social groups of Shariatpur living in Dhaka.
