Due to a fire at the Cargo Village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, eight incoming flights were diverted to Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

The diversion occurred on Saturday, October 18, and was confirmed by Shah Amanat Airport’s Public Relations Officer, Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil.

He stated that the fire disrupted operations at Dhaka airport, prompting the diversion of several flights, including:

  • Two domestic flights from Chattogram to Dhaka
  • US-Bangla Airlines’ flight from Bangkok
  • Air Arabia’s flight from the Middle East
  • Two additional US-Bangla Airlines flights
  • Two Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights

In total, eight flights safely landed in Chattogram.

Earlier in the day, a fire broke out in a section of the Cargo Village at Shahjalal International Airport, where imported goods are typically stored. At least 20 fire service units were initially deployed to bring the blaze under control, with 13 more units later dispatched. Personnel from the Bangladesh Air Force and airport authorities also joined the emergency response effort.
