Renowned Indian actor Madhav Vaze, best known for his role as Ali Fazal’s father in the acclaimed film 3 Idiots, has passed away at the age of 85, according to Indian media outlet Hindustan Times.
Madhav Vaze began his artistic journey in theatre and went on to receive numerous accolades for his contributions to the performing arts. Alongside acting, he directed plays by both Indian and Western playwrights and served for many years as a professor in the drama department of the Goa Kala Academy.
He was also a member of the International Association of Theatre Critics. One of his most praised early performances was as young Shyam in the National Award-winning film Shyamchi Aai, which earned him critical acclaim.
In addition to Bollywood, Vaze was a prominent figure in Marathi cinema. His stage direction of Shakespeare’s Hamlet was later translated into Marathi by Parshuram Deshpande. In recent years, he appeared in several successful Hindi films including Dear Zindagi and 3 Idiots.
His passing marks the end of a prolific career that spanned decades and left a lasting impact on Indian theatre and film.
