The government is working through legal procedures, with the help of Interpol, to bring former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to the country, said Security Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He made the remarks on Saturday (May 10) during a visit to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to inspect the security and immigration systems. “I came to observe the improvements in immigration services. There has been significant progress compared to before,” he said.
In response to a question about former President Md. Abdul Hamid’s recent trip to Thailand, he stated that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate how he left the country bypassing the security protocol. “Once the report is submitted, legal action will be taken against those responsible,” he added.
When asked about any travel restrictions on the former president, he said he was unaware of any such directive from the Special Branch to the Ministry of Home Affairs but assured that the matter would be investigated.
Regarding recent protests demanding the banning of the Awami League, the adviser said, “Protests should be organized in a way that avoids public suffering. There are alternative, peaceful ways to press demands.”
