Dhaka, once known for its bustling energy, is now being dubbed the city of protests. Frequent demonstrations and road blockades have left the capital’s roads in a state of chaos, making commuting a daily ordeal for working people.

Model, actress, TV host, and lawyer Peya Jannatul recently took to social media to express her frustration over the worsening traffic situation. On Wednesday (May 21), she posted a photo and a video on Facebook, writing, “Traffic in Dhaka has always been terrible. You have to think multiple times before going anywhere because the roads are so jammed, it’s impossible to estimate time. But now it’s even worse due to all the protests—most roads are completely blocked.”

One particular line from her post—“My runway now feels like the streets of Dhaka”—caught the attention of netizens for its sarcasm and wit.

Peya added, “It feels like standing still in traffic is our new job. We sit in our cars for hours. These days, reaching a destination means switching from car to walking, then rickshaw, sometimes bike, and walking again. It’s a never-ending cycle.”

She went on to say, “It’s getting impossible to even reach places on time—how are we supposed to work? Getting somewhere has become a bigger struggle than the job itself. After all the effort to arrive, focusing on the work becomes extremely difficult.”

Once a prominent face in modeling and acting, Peya Jannatul now spends more time practicing law. She occasionally appears at award functions and has acted in several films including Chorabali, Gangster Returns, The Story of Samara, and Chhitmohol.
