Economic Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed stated that the country is confronting various complex challenges, not just within the Ministry of Finance but across the broader economic landscape.
He made these remarks while delivering the keynote speech at the national round of the Bangladesh Economics Olympiad 2025 held at Dhaka Residential Model College on Friday, May 23.
Salehuddin noted, “Many criticize us and call us inactive. Criticism is acceptable, but such comments do not create a positive impression internationally and harm the country’s image.”
Regarding the upcoming budget, he said, “There have been talks about various tax exemptions. Detailed explanations will be needed right after the budget announcement. Balancing public expectations and social equity is not an easy task.”
On the IMF, he added, “They could not impose all their demands on us; we have reached a reasonable solution through dialogue.”
In this year’s Economics Olympiad, five students selected from 20,000 participants nationwide will represent Bangladesh at the international competition in Azerbaijan.
