After a long wait, Bangladesh football may be on the brink of an exciting new chapter — the national team could soon play international friendlies in Europe. With the FIFA international match window in September approaching, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has already begun its preparations, aiming to arrange one or two matches against European opponents.
Following a meeting of the BFF’s National Team Management Committee held on Thursday at the federation’s headquarters, Deputy Chairman Md. Imrul Hasan spoke to the press. He stated, “From September 1 to 9, Bangladesh will play international matches under the FIFA tier. These could be home or away fixtures. If we play away, we are keen to play in Europe, with a plan for two matches.”
The announcement has sparked excitement in the local football community, as a European tour would mark a significant milestone for Bangladesh football — especially for a new generation of players and fans.
In parallel with these plans, the national team camp has begun today at a five-star hotel in Dhaka. This time, the camp has garnered extra attention due to the inclusion of three expatriate players — Hamza Dewan Choudhury (England), Samit Som (Canada), and Fahmidul Haque (Italy) — who have joined the squad.
The team is also preparing for two upcoming matches: against Bhutan on June 4 and Singapore on June 10. Although Hamza and Samit might miss the Bhutan match, all three expat players are expected to be available for the Singapore clash.
Due to a lack of regular international fixtures, the national team has struggled to maintain momentum on the global stage. A tour of Europe could boost not only Bangladesh’s FIFA ranking but also offer invaluable experience to the young and emerging talents in the squad.
If the BFF’s plans materialize, the red-and-green of Bangladesh may be seen battling strong European teams this September — a landmark moment that could redefine the nation’s football ambitions.
