An attempted push-in by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kachakata border in Kurigram’s Nageshwari upazila was thwarted late Friday night (May 30) by the joint efforts of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar members, and vigilant locals.

The incident took place near Shovarkuti and Shipherhat in the Kedar Union. According to local sources, around 7 PM, BSF members from Golakganj police station in Assam’s Dhubri district brought 50–60 individuals in two pickup vans to a school near the Indian village of Fayskarkuti, adjacent to the Bangladesh border. Shortly afterward, BSF allegedly turned off all nearby lights and attempted to secretly push the group into Bangladeshi territory.

As news of the attempt spread, hundreds of residents rushed to the border and formed a human wall, standing guard throughout the night. Meanwhile, BGB personnel from the Kachakata and Kedar camps, along with several teams from the Ansar and VDP, took firm positions at the border to prevent the incursion.

At around 2 AM, BSF personnel advanced to the zero line and tried to initiate dialogue with BGB, but BGB refused. Eventually, by 3 AM, BSF forces withdrew from the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub Ul Haque, commander of BGB’s Kurigram-22 battalion, confirmed the incident, stating, “To prevent any illegal entry attempts by BSF, BGB, Ansar, and the local population are jointly guarding the border. Patrols have been intensified across the area.”
