The Supreme Court has released and sent the short verdict to the Election Commission (EC) regarding the reinstatement of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s registration as a political party. The verdict was made public on Sunday evening, June 1.

Earlier that morning, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court overturned a previous High Court ruling that had declared Jamaat’s registration illegal. The four-member bench, led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed, ordered the EC to reinstate the party’s registration.

However, the court did not issue a specific directive regarding Jamaat’s electoral symbol—the scales. The matter has been left to the discretion of the Election Commission for further consideration.

Later in the evening, EC Secretary Akhtar Hossain told Kalbela that the commission had not yet received the official letter concerning Jamaat’s registration.

Meanwhile, lawyer Shishir Monir stated that according to the Supreme Court’s short order, both Jamaat’s registration and its ‘scales’ symbol remain valid. He shared this update in a verified Facebook post on Sunday night.
