BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that nearly all political parties have expressed support for holding the national election by December.

He made the statement on Monday (June 2) while speaking to journalists following a meeting with the National Consensus Commission.

“We have been able to come closer on key issues through dialogue,” Salahuddin said. “We will support only those proposals that uphold the greater national interest. If adopted as part of national policy, such proposals will help build unity across the country. We seek a constitutionally grounded and truly democratic system—one that ensures balance among state institutions and reflects the aspirations of the people.”

He further stated, “We believe it is possible to hold the national election within December. Urgent reforms—especially those directly related to the election—should be identified and implemented based on consensus. There are no reforms that cannot be executed within a month if there is political will.”

Referring to the possibility of legal changes, he said, “Apart from constitutional amendments, all other reforms—those on which there is agreement—can be implemented through executive orders within a month. Therefore, we see no valid reason for the election to be delayed beyond December, and we’ve clearly conveyed that point.”

Salahuddin concluded by saying, “Most political parties have submitted proposals supporting elections by December. Now, we expect the Chief Adviser to take that into consideration. We believe he will act as a true symbol of national unity and carry out his responsibilities impartially, free from any bias or favoritism.”
