Israel launched multiple airstrikes on southern Syria starting late Tuesday night (June 3), with explosions continuing into early Wednesday (June 4).

The Israeli military claimed the strikes targeted Syrian government weapons facilities in response to projectiles launched from Syrian territory toward Israeli-held areas.

Earlier on Tuesday, reports emerged of two projectiles fired from Syria landing in Israeli-occupied territory. Responsibility for the attack has not been definitively confirmed, and sources like The Guardian and Reuters could not independently verify who was behind it.

According to Syria’s state news agency and security sources, Israeli jets struck areas near Damascus, Quneitra, and Daraa. The strikes follow the killing of a civilian near a village in western Syria, further escalating tensions.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaq directly responsible for the projectile launches, stating, “We consider the Syrian President directly accountable for any threat or attack on the State of Israel. A full response is coming soon.”

In contrast, Syria’s Foreign Ministry said the reports of projectiles launched toward Israel are still unconfirmed. The statement emphasized that Syria does not and will not pose a threat to any party in the region, accusing unnamed actors of seeking to destabilize the area for their own interests.

Recently, Syria and Israel had reportedly engaged in rare direct talks aimed at easing tensions — a notable step in the historically hostile relationship.

Meanwhile, several Arab and Palestinian media outlets circulated a claim of responsibility for the projectile launches, allegedly from a little-known group called the “Martyr Mohammed Deif Brigade.” However, this claim has not been independently verified by major international outlets like Reuters.
