Sarjis Alam, the chief coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) in the northern region, has stated that his party would have no objection to participating in the national election scheduled for April 2026—provided that necessary fundamental reforms are completed by March of that year.

He made this statement in a Facebook post on Friday, June 6.

In his post, Sarjis wrote that if the “July Declaration” and “July Charter” are finalized by July, and visible judicial actions and essential structural reforms are completed by March, then NCP would not oppose joining the election.

He emphasized that, following a decade of illegitimate elections and the “July Uprising” of 2023, the upcoming election must not be marred by abuse of power, the influence of black money, or displays of muscle power. On these issues, there can be no compromise.

Sarjis stressed that for a fair and neutral election, key state institutions—such as the law enforcement agencies, the Election Commission, and the judiciary—must prove their impartiality through visible actions. He added that these institutions must be protected from any form of political interference.

He further noted that creating a level playing field by ensuring equal opportunities and a safe environment for all political parties is essential for holding a truly fair and participatory election.
