Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, performed Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the National Eidgah Maidan, located within the Supreme Court premises in Dhaka.
The main Eid congregation began at 7:30 AM on Saturday, June 7, and concluded at 7:43 AM. After the prayers, Dr. Yunus addressed the nation, saying, “Eid Mubarak to all. On this sacred day, please pray for the peace and prosperity of the country.”
The congregation was attended by the Chief Justice, judges of the Supreme Court and High Court divisions, members of the advisory council, leaders of various political parties, senior government officials, and diplomats from several Muslim-majority countries based in Dhaka, along with thousands of devout worshippers.
After the prayer, Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, approached Dr. Yunus to exchange Eid greetings with an embrace. The Chief Adviser then extended Eid wishes to three other advisers as well. He said, “It felt wonderful to see everyone together at this congregation. Let us all pray for the welfare of the nation. Allah Hafiz.”
As he exited the Eidgah under a security cordon, waving at the crowd, voices from among the people could be heard saying, “Sir, we want you for five years. Don’t listen to the brokers.”
The main Eid congregation was organized by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). According to the DSCC’s public relations department, the main prayer canopy covered about 25,400 square meters and accommodated around 35,000 worshippers. Separate arrangements were made for women. Many children attended the congregation holding their parents’ hands, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the ground.
To ensure safety and smooth management of the event, police, RAB, and other law enforcement agencies were on duty throughout the program. The Eid prayers concluded peacefully and in an orderly manner.
