Model Meghna Alam Released from Jail

Model Meghna Alam has been released from jail after her bail was granted and her detention order was canceled in a fraud case. She was released from the Kashimpur Women’s Central Jail on Tuesday (April 29) at 6:30 PM. The confirmation of her release was provided by Jahangir Kabir, the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons for the Dhaka Division.

Earlier, on Monday (April 28), Meghna Alam was granted bail in a fraud and extortion case filed at the Dhaka’s Dhanmondi police station. The Additional Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Mohammad Channawallah, approved her bail after the hearing.

On April 10, Meghna Alam was sent to jail after a 30-day detention order under the Special Powers Act. Later, her 30-day detention order was canceled. On April 17, after a hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia’s court recorded her arrest in the case.

The charges against Meghna Alam include being an active member of a criminal fraud ring along with Dewan Samir and several unidentified individuals. They allegedly entrapped foreign diplomats and wealthy businesspeople in Bangladesh by manipulating them into illicit relationships, using threats of damage to their reputations to extort money.

Dewan Samir is the CEO of a business named Kawai Group and the owner of a manpower company called Sanjana International. He allegedly recruited attractive young women as brand ambassadors to facilitate his access to foreign diplomats and wealthy businesspeople, using the women to manipulate them.

The charges also state that Dewan Samir used his businesses to target foreign diplomats, blackmailing them to extort large sums of money as part of his fraudulent schemes.

On April 10, Meghna Alam was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. After a hearing that night, the court imposed a 30-day detention order under the Detention Act. On April 17, Meghna was arrested in the fraud case filed at the Dhanmondi police station. Additionally, her associate Dewan Samir was arrested and granted five days of remand in a separate fraud case filed at the Vatara police station on April 12.

On April 17, the court granted another five-day remand for Dewan Samir in connection with the fraud and extortion case at Dhanmondi police station, followed by an additional four-day remand on April 22. After completing his remand, Samir was sent to jail on April 27.
