Naval police have arrested a young woman named Disha in connection with the murder case of former Bangladesh Air Force officer Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri. According to investigation sources, Disha was seen with Tahsif at a bar in Uttara shortly before his death. CCTV footage reportedly supports the claim.
TongI Naval Police Outpost Inspector Firoz Ahmed confirmed the arrest to the media on Sunday (November 1). He said Disha was arrested on Saturday night. On the same night, investigators also began questioning Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, a friend of Tahsif and a key suspect in the case, who is currently on a four-day remand.
Earlier on Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Hasib Ullah Pias granted police four days to interrogate Dip. Although police had sought a seven-day remand for the sake of a proper investigation, the court approved four days.
Abdullah Al Mamun, superintendent of police of the Dhaka region of Naval Police, said preliminary evidence had been found suggesting Dip’s involvement in Tahsif’s death. He added that investigators were questioning him to establish the details of the incident. However, he said all information could not be disclosed at this stage in the interest of the investigation.
According to investigation sources, CCTV footage analysis showed that Dip was with Tahsif from around 6:30 pm on Tuesday until 1:30 am. They later went to the Mazar Basti area of Tongi, after which Tahsif did not return.
Dip reportedly told investigators that unidentified people were chasing them. He claimed that he managed to escape, while Tahsif jumped into the river. He provided this account to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
However, investigators reportedly found several inconsistencies in Dip’s initial statements. Authorities are questioning him further to clarify these discrepancies.
Earlier, Dip was detained by the PBI from his residence on Babar Road in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, late Thursday night. On Friday night, Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals at Uttarkhan Police Station. Dip was subsequently shown arrested in the case.
Tahsif, 28, went missing from his residence in Uttara on Tuesday evening. The following afternoon, naval police recovered his body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Tongi.
