A group of 123 irregular and distressed Bangladeshi nationals are returning home from Tripoli, Libya. Their repatriation is being carried out with the support of the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
They are scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:30 AM on Thursday, June 19.
The special flight operated by Burak Air departed from Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli at 6:25 PM local time on Wednesday, June 18, heading towards Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli stated that this repatriation effort was made possible through their continuous efforts and assistance from IOM.
Most of the returnees had been living irregularly in and around Tripoli, with 23 of them reported to be physically ill.
According to the embassy, many migrants’ passports had expired or they lacked valid documents, making it a significant challenge to issue new passports and obtain exit visas (khurooj) from the Libyan authorities.
