Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has returned to Bangladesh after completing his visit to the United States, where he attended the United Nations General Assembly. After nine days abroad, he arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (October 2) at 9 a.m. on an Emirates flight that landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, according to the Chief Adviser’s office.
On September 23, Dr. Yunus traveled to New York to participate in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly and several high-level meetings. He was accompanied by six political leaders: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizens’ Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Joint Convener Dr. Tasnim Jara, and Jamaat leader Naqibur Rahman Tarek, who joined the delegation from the United States.
On September 26, Dr. Yunus delivered a speech during the General Debate at the UN headquarters. In his address, he highlighted the interim government’s reform initiatives, the aspirations of the July 2024 mass uprising, the commitment to holding free and fair elections in February 2026, the pursuit of justice for the July killings, and the Rohingya crisis.
He also spoke at the opening session of a high-level conference on the situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar. Stressing that safe repatriation to Myanmar is the only sustainable solution, he presented a seven-point proposal.
During his stay in New York, Dr. Yunus was honored with the “Unlock Big Change Award” at the annual Global Education Dinner organized by Theirworld.
