The appointment of music teachers in primary schools has been put on hold, said Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain, Adviser on Religious Affairs.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (October 13), he clarified that the issue does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, but rather the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

“Several religious organizations, including Hefazat-e-Islam, have raised objections to the inclusion of music in the primary school curriculum,” he said. “I have conveyed their concerns to the Adviser for Primary and Mass Education and recommended a discussion on the matter. However, the final decision lies with that ministry.”

Hefazat-e-Islam recently announced a series of programs demanding the cancellation of music teacher recruitment in primary schools and the formulation of new regulations for appointing religious teachers.

When asked about progress on appointing religious teachers in primary schools, Dr. Khalid Hossain responded, “I cannot comment on that as it falls outside the scope of my ministry. However, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is currently reviewing the demands raised by Hefazat and other Islamic groups.”
