Rokib Hasan, the beloved writer of the popular Bangladeshi youth thriller series ‘Tin Goenda’ (Three Detectives), has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un).
He breathed his last on Wednesday, October 15, at the Gonoshashtho Nagar Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, while undergoing treatment.
The news was confirmed by Dr. Mohibullah Khandakar, Vice Principal of Gonoshashtho Community Medical College. He said, “Rokib Hasan regularly came to our hospital for kidney dialysis. He came today as well, but passed away shortly before the procedure could begin.”
Early Life and Literary Journey
Born on December 12, 1950, in Comilla, Rokib Hasan spent much of his childhood in Feni due to his father’s job. After completing his schooling there, he enrolled at Comilla Victoria College.
Although he held various jobs after finishing his education, he found office life confining and ultimately chose writing as his lifelong career.
Literary Career and Contributions
Rokib Hasan began his writing career with Seba Prokashoni, initially translating classic world literature. Later, he created numerous popular series for young readers, including Tarzan, Goenda Raju, Reza-Suja, and most notably, Tin Goenda.

His greatest fame came from the ‘Tin Goenda’ series, which captivated countless young readers across Bangladesh with thrilling adventures of three young detectives—Musa, Robin, and Kishore. The series played a vital role in fostering a love for reading among children and teenagers.

Over his lifetime, Rokib Hasan authored over 400 books, leaving an indelible mark on Bangladeshi youth literature.
His passing is a great loss to Bengali literature, especially the world of children’s fiction. Yet, his stories and characters will live on, continuing to inspire generations of readers.
