In the recently held Chittagong University Central Student Union (CHAKSU) election, the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel, Sompritir Shikkharthi Jote, secured victory in 24 positions, including the Vice President (VP) and General Secretary (GS) posts. Meanwhile, the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) position was won by Ayubur Rahman Tawfiq, a candidate supported by Chhatra Dal.
The results were officially announced on Thursday (October 16) at the university’s BBA Auditorium by the Chief Election Commissioner.
According to the results, Ibrahim Hossain Roni won the VP post with 7,983 votes, while Saeed Bin Habib was elected GS with 8,031 votes—both from the Shibir-backed panel. Ayubur Rahman Tawfiq of Chhatra Dal secured the AGS position with 7,014 votes.
VP-elect Ibrahim Roni is a student of the 2017–18 session in the History Department. GS Saeed Bin Habib is from the 2019–20 session of the same department, while AGS Ayubur Rahman Tawfiq is a student of the 2021–22 session in the Department of Islamic History and Culture.
This election marks a significant political shift on campus, as it is the first time in over three decades that Shibir-supported candidates have won both the VP and GS positions in CHAKSU. The victory of a Chhatra Dal-backed candidate in the AGS post has also drawn notable attention.
A total of 907 candidates from 13 panels, including those supported by Chhatra Shibir and Chhatra Dal, contested in the election. Among them, 415 ran for 26 positions in the central union, while 493 contested for 14 posts in the hall unions. There were 27,516 registered voters in total—16,084 male and 11,329 female.
