Leading Mexican companies are expressing strong interest in establishing long-term trade relations with Bangladesh, driven by the country’s high-quality products and competitive pricing. In light of this, María Elena Castillo, a representative of Coppel—Mexico’s largest retail chain—has arrived in Dhaka on an official visit.

She is visiting at the invitation of Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Mexico. The main purpose of her visit is to explore premium, cost-effective Bangladeshi products suitable for export to Mexico and other Latin American markets.

About Coppel: One of Latin America’s Retail Giants

Coppel operates over 2,000 retail outlets across Mexico and Argentina, making it one of the largest and most influential retailers in Latin America. While the company does have some in-house products, most of its merchandise—including apparel, electronics, cosmetics, and furniture—is sourced from international markets.

Interest in Bangladeshi Products

Speaking during her visit, María Elena Castillo, a liaison officer at Coppel, said:

“Bangladesh produces high-quality garments and cosmetics at very affordable prices. The country is politically stable, and we see great potential to import Bangladeshi products to Mexico and other Latin American countries.”

As part of her visit, she toured Al-Muslim Group’s manufacturing facility in Savar, where she evaluated their production process, product standards, and overall compliance with international benchmarks. She expressed satisfaction with what she observed.

A Promising Market with Massive Potential

Abdullah, Managing Director of Al-Muslim Group, commented:

“Mexico and the wider Latin American region are densely populated and offer vast market opportunities. Bangladeshi exporters can tap into this space with the right strategy. Our initial discussions have been very encouraging.”

He also acknowledged the support from Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari:

“The ambassador’s proactive involvement has played a key role in making this initiative possible. If more embassies extended this level of support, Bangladeshi businesses would be more confident in entering and competing in the global market.”

Toward a $1 Billion Export Goal

With the help of the Bangladeshi Embassy in Mexico, trade prospects between Bangladesh and Latin America are expanding rapidly. Business leaders are optimistic that Bangladeshi exports to the region could exceed $1 billion annually, especially in sectors like ready-made garments, cosmetics, electronics, and furniture.

This visit by Coppel’s representative is expected to pave the way for stronger commercial ties between Bangladesh and Mexico, unlocking new trade opportunities across the Latin American region.
