Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has announced that the commission’s term has been extended until October 31. Within this extended period, the commission will submit a set of clear, specific, and comprehensive recommendations to the government for the implementation of the July National Charter 2025.
Speaking at a press briefing held on Thursday (October 16) at the LD Hall of the National Parliament in Dhaka, he said:
“The commission will make its utmost effort to ensure the implementation of the charter. We expect the government to take concrete steps within this timeframe to begin the implementation process, which must move forward through inclusive participation.”
Present at the event were Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr. Md. Ayub Miah, Safar Raj Hossain, and Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser involved in the consensus-building process.
Ali Riaz noted that:
“The people of Bangladesh have long aspired for democracy and systemic reform—aspirations that have often been hindered. However, those hopes are now partially reflected in this national charter.”
Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki described the July National Charter 2025 as a vision for Bangladesh’s future. He said:
“If the areas of consensus reached among political parties through this charter can be implemented, it could bring significant changes to the country’s political culture.”
He added that on Friday (October 17), the commission will gather at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, where a short documentary will be presented to the public outlining the core messages and promises of the charter.
