Nahid Islam, coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP), stated on Friday, October 17, that simply bringing together a few political parties to sign a document does not constitute national unity. He emphasized that the signing of the July Charter by some political parties should not be mistaken for genuine national unity.
Speaking at the inauguration event of the National Workers’ Force, Nahid Islam said, “There is a misconception that when a few political parties sit together and sign a document, it automatically becomes national unity. That is not the case. This is not real unity.”
The NCP chose not to participate in the signing ceremony, citing the lack of legal basis for the charter, describing the event as merely a formality. Mushfiq Us Salehin, Joint Secretary General of NCP, added that since the Unity Commission has extended the deadline, they plan to engage with the commission, present their position, and will consider signing once their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the historic July National Charter 2025 signing ceremony took place on Friday at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, organized by the National Unity Commission. The event was attended by representatives from around 25 political parties, including Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
