A fire broke out in the cargo village area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday around 2:30 PM, and even after nearly four hours, it has not been fully brought under control. Firefighting efforts involve 37 fire service units, along with support from the army, navy, air force, and border guards. Additionally, a remote-controlled fire-fighting robot is being deployed to help extinguish the fire.

According to Lima Khanam, the duty officer at the fire service control room, as of 6 AM Sunday morning, the fire was still not completely extinguished. The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unknown.

The fire has disrupted airport operations. Flights from Dhaka to Kuala Lumpur operated by Batik Air and to Mumbai by IndiGo are currently waiting on the taxiway. A US-Bangla Airlines flight arriving from Bangkok has been diverted to Chattogram. The IndiGo flight from Delhi to Dhaka was diverted to Kolkata. An Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Dhaka also landed in Chattogram.

Meanwhile, a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Dhaka is circling in the air, unable to land due to the situation. Flight departures will be resumed once the situation is under control.

Additionally, a Bangladesh Biman flight from Saidpur to Dhaka and a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Chattogram to Dhaka were both diverted to Chattogram due to the ongoing fire emergency.
