The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced the indefinite closure of all jewelry shops across Dhaka and the rest of the country.

This decision was made public through a press release issued on Wednesday, May 28, by BAJUS General Secretary Badal Chandra Roy.

According to the statement, the shutdown is in protest against the arrest of BAJUS Vice-President Md. Riponul Hasan in what the association claims is a false and harassing case. The association is demanding his unconditional release.

The acting President of BAJUS, Gulzar Ahmed, along with General Secretary Badal Chandra Roy and other central leaders, strongly condemned Riponul Hasan’s arrest, expressing deep concern and outrage over the incident.

As part of the protest, from tomorrow morning, all jewelry businesses in Dhaka and across the country will remain closed indefinitely until their demands are met.

It is worth noting that Md. Riponul Hasan was arrested around 7:30 PM this evening from his business premises in Tantibazar, Dhaka.
