The third round of discussions between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the National Consensus Commission is taking place today, Tuesday, April 22. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM in the LD Hall conference room of the National Parliament. Representing the BNP in today’s discussions are standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed, Chairperson’s advisor Ismail Zabihullah, former Establishment Secretary Abu Mohammad Moniruzzaman, and former General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol. Previously, two rounds of talks were held on April 17 and 20, during which a variety of proposals were discussed, including constitutional reform, election procedures, police and judiciary reform, anti-corruption efforts, and restructuring of the administrative framework. Following Sunday’s meeting, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed stated that progress had been made regarding the expansion of the President’s current powers. There was a growing consensus among the parties to bring certain aspects of legislation and appointment processes under the President’s authority. He also mentioned that discussions on several topics are still ongoing and will be finalized in future meetings. Sunday’s meeting saw participation from the same BNP delegation: Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Ismail Zabihullah, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, and Abu Mohammad Moniruzzaman. The session was chaired by Professor Ali Riaz on behalf of the National Consensus Commission, with Monir Haidar moderating. Also present were Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, and Safar Raj Hossain.
