Sonia Munni, First Secretary at the Bangladesh High Commission in London, has been awarded the ‘Young Diplomat of the Year 2025’ award. She received this recognition for her contributions to the diplomatic field in London from Diplomat magazine.
The award ceremony took place on Tuesday evening (April 22) at the Hilton Hotel in London.
This was the 15th edition of the Diplomat of the Year Awards, with over 100 ambassadors, high commissioners, and diplomats from around the world in attendance. The event, organized annually by Diplomat magazine, recognizes the significant contributions of diplomats in London.
The Diplomat of the Year award is chosen through a spontaneous nomination and voting process, in which representatives from more than 180 diplomatic missions in London participate.
Upon receiving the award, Sonia Munni expressed her pride, saying, “I am truly honored to represent my beloved country, Bangladesh, here in London — a city that serves as the heart of global diplomacy.”
The award was presented to Sonia Munni by James Landale, the BBC’s diplomatic correspondent.
Sonia Munni is a professional diplomat from the 34th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Foreign Affairs) cadre. This is her first diplomatic posting, where she is currently serving in matters related to the Commonwealth.
She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Dhaka University and later earned a second master’s degree from Oxford University, reflecting both her academic excellence and global perspective.
The ‘Young Diplomat of the Year’ award recognizes the rise of new leadership in diplomacy, and such acknowledgments are significant in fostering the development of future leadership in international relations.
